Find Your North Star

The most common missing piece creators don’t even realize is this: creators don’t know why they’re posting. A north star is not “I want to sell” or “I want to make money.” A north star is a value driven mission for why you are showing up on social media. My north star on social media is to make creators feel confident and empowered to show up online.

Identify Your Style and Sweet Spot

Not everyone is going to be able to make vlogs or get ready with me style videos. It’s important to figure out not only what you enjoy posting but what you are good at creating. Finding this balance will help content creation fell less of a chore and more of a creative outlet. Think about the different styles of posting (noted below) which ones do you find easy to create versus difficult. Try and spend more time being creative in the area you find more enjoyable.

• Talking on camera

• Voiceovers

• Lip sync

• Vlogging

• Humor

• Tutorials

• Visual stories

• Or a blend

Why Category Rotation is Important

Rotating the topic of your content is important. Go and watch the first 6-10 videos on your feed. Do you get a sense of who you are as a creator? Or is it the same type of video back to back? If a potential new follower lands on your page and sees 10 lip sync videos, they might not feel inclined to follow. But if you have 2 videos showing off more of YOU they might just get invested and hit follow.

Quality Control Checklist

After doing countless social media audits, the same technical feedback became common, and so I created this quality control checklist. Keep these 6 checks in mind when posting your content to make sure you give it the best chance to reach the most people. It’s not that a video with bad lighting or loud music won’t go viral, but it will be a lot easier if the viewer isn’t struggling to enjoy your content.

Quick quality checklist

• Strong opening hook

• Good lighting

• Clear audio

• Tight edit, no wasted seconds

• Proper vertical formatting

• Text placement that avoids faces + covers
